Backbone

Backlog Refinement

The progressive elaboration of project requirements and/or the ongoing activity in which the team collaboratively reviews, updates, and writes requirements to satisfy the need of the customer request.

Backlog Refinement

Progressive elaboration of the content in the backlog and (re)prioritization of it to identify the work that can be accomplished in an upcoming iteration.

Backward Pass

A critical path method technique for calculating the late start and late finish dates by working backward through the schedule model from the project end date.

A technique that establishes the relationship of a requirement to the scope, business goals, or business objectives from which it originated.

Bar

A rectangular-shaped, graphical display object used to represent the occurrence of a data component in a document, such as a schedule activity in a bar chart whose length is determined by the activity start and end dates corresponding to the timescale used for the bar chart. Bars can overlap or be displayed side by side to indicate progress or baselines.

Bar Chart

A graphic display of schedule-related information. In the typical bar chart, schedule activities or work breakdown structure components are listed down the left side of the chart, dates are shown across the top, and activity durations are shown as date-placed horizontal bars. See also Gantt chart.

Baseline

The approved version of a work product, used as a basis for comparison to actual results.

Baseline Date

The date on which the current baseline was established. Sometimes used with a modifier, such as project schedule, project scope, or project cost.

Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA)

A Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) is a pre-negotiated agreement between a buyer and a supplier that sets out the general terms and conditions under which future orders can be placed. It provides a framework for procurement, allowing for streamlined ordering processes without the need to renegotiate terms for each new order.

Purpose

  • Streamline Procurement: Simplify the ordering process by establishing pre-approved terms and conditions.
  • Flexibility: Allow for the issuance of individual orders or delivery orders under the general terms of the BOA.
  • Efficiency: Reduce administrative burden and negotiation time for each order.
  • Consistency: Ensure consistency in terms and conditions for all orders placed under the agreement.

Basis of Estimates

Supporting documentation outlining the details used in establishing project estimates such as assumptions, constraints, level of detail, ranges, and confidence levels.

Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)

An approach that suggests the team begins with understanding how the user will use a product (its behavior), writes tests for that behavior, and then constructs solutions against the tests.

Benchmarking

The comparison of actual or planned products, processes, and practices to those of comparable organizations to identify best practices, generate ideas for improvement, and provide a basis for measuring performance.
